KOELNER STADTANZEIGER OCT 2013

Quote: „Especially appreciated the“ Honky Tonk Train Blues“ by Meade Lux Lewis, to which Torsten Zwingenberger contributed an outstanding acoustic version of an oncoming locomotive – the drummer caused a surprise as he used original African rhythm instruments in an boogie-woogie piece“…

MEINERZHAGENER ZEITUNG MARCH 7, 2010

…So his terrifically fast drummed Soli, lasting several minutes, released eager whistles, calls and interapplause over and over again.

DRUMHEADS!! SCHLAGZEUGMAGAZIN MAR 2009

Torsten Teasy Zwingenberger is a true acrobat on the percussion. With three Sticks and up to five pedals at the same time he operates in unbelievable tempo on his old Slingerland darling.

ELMSHORNER NACHRICHTEN FEB 22, 2009

The Boogie piano left to the percussion as the second instrument the freedom which does not have it, otherwise, as a rhythm pillar, and which Torsten Zwingenberger used thoroughly: He kept up with the sometimes hair-raising tempo laxly. With several Soli he demonstrated his technical skill for which he was recompensed with a lot of applause (about the concert with Axel Zwingenberger on the 21.2.09 in Elmshorn).

TAUNUSZEITUNG, FEB. 14, 2009

…However, this was merely the beginning of an extremely exciting interaction which was marked by subtlety and Verve and which raised itself rhythmically concisely on and on – and then every now and then suddenly broke off. Imaginatively and full intensity there sounded known jazz titles (about concert Torsten Zwingenberger/David Gazarov Febr 12, 09 in Hamburg).

BRAUNSCHWEIGER ZEITUNG, DEC. 22, 2008

(TEASY/Torsten Zwingenberger) … gave a fascinating percussion solo imitating a starting and accelerating a steam locomotive. The audience were enthusiastic and later expressed their loud appreciation for every other drum solo.

PEINER ALLGEMEINE ZEITUNG, DEC. 21, 2008

… a wonderful, gradual fusion process. Time and again, one brother takes up the other’s musical idea, plays around with it, makes something new out of it.
… TEASY (Torsten Zwingenberger) plays a wide range of percussion instruments. And the piece „African Groovin'“ is one of the climaxes of an unforgettable evening. Far from all pseudo-ethnic noise, Zwingenberger builds, beat for beat, tone for tone, creating an insistent primeval forest of sounds.

MAGDEBURGER VOLKSSTIMME, SEPT. 27, 2008

In the case of the drummer, the audience sometimes had to look closely to see whether he really did have only two hands and two feet. His self-created percussion technique enables Zwingenberger to carry out the most virtuoso refinements in drumming and percussion. Impressive, masterly, hand-made music that enthused the modern jazz fans.

SÜDOSTSCHWEIZ, CHUR, SWITZERLAND, JAN. 25, 2008

Again and again (pianist) Gazarov and (drummer) Zwingenberger inspired each other to top performances and exchanged (musical) ideas. The briefest eye contact was enough for them to return from the most complex solos back to perfect harmony. And that at a breakneck tempo.
Playing sometimes conventionally, sometimes with three drumsticks, using a bar stool as a drum, or even a hand drum and truncheon at the same time, Zwingenberger effortlessly created the craziest of rhythms. He almost seemed to have four arms and four legs. Gazarov, too, must have been using at least 20 fingers at times…

ALLGÄUER ZEITUNG, SEPT. 30, 2007

Two magicians shape jewels in sound
Jazz gala pianist David Gazarov and percussion virtuoso Torsten Zwingenberger offer interpretations rich in different moods …

RHEINISCHE POST, MARCH 31, 2006

Relaxed and straight from the wrist, the drummer conjured up swinging rhythms, sometimes caressing the cymbals, sometimes making them thunder.

RHEINPFALZ, JULY 23, 2005

Zwingenberger is especially cool on the drums: quite relaxed and without effort he drums out the swing and Latin rhythms…

BADISCHE ZEITUNG, OCT. 7, 2003

… Drummer Torsten Zwingenberger: the most experienced of the band musicians who has backed many US stars. His swing feeling and relaxed elegance are fascinating.

NEUBURGER RUNDSCHAU, FEB. 15, 2002

A handpicked band makes its contribution to the success of the concert: Torsten Zwingenberger’s relaxed drumming – with its finely chiseled rhythms, well measured use of tom-toms and subtle elements of percussion…
